Project Run & Play

Have you seen this blog? Project Run & Play. Just like, well, sorta/kinda like Project Runway. Where PR has hours to create a one of a kind, PRP gives their designers a week, and it's just for kids clothes.

And the best part, they have a SAL each week, where we home sewers can play along and do the same challenge! We load our pictures into their Flickr group, and each week one of them wins  a prize! So... I decided for this week anyway, I'd play along. I hope to play next week too, but I'll have to wait and see.

The challenge is a pattern remix of the Circle Skirt tutorial which is super easy to make - from kid to mommy or even grandma size!! I'm just making kid size :)

So, I've had this vintage fabric with scotty dogs on it, for awhile now. I knew the perfect project would come along and I believe this is it!

I cut out my circle skirt, but instead of putting elastic at the waistband, I used some ribbing, like for sweatshirt cuffs? Made a wide waistband, and made a belt from the scotty dog strip -  Now I need to crochet some belt loops in the middle of the wide waistband, and then decide - Buckle or no?

I'm hoping to do the belt loops tonight and then tomorrow, hem the skirt and make that buckle decision. Got any great buckle ideas?

  1. A buckle like is on a doggie collar or a spring type clip like on a leash. Something that keeps with the pooch theme! Or Scottish tassles. LOL
Love the skirtand the waistband treatment!

  2. Wow, that sounds super exciting. Love the fabric, too. I have no idea for a buckle, but my opinion is less is more and I don't think I would put a buckle.
I am in the process of trying to make myself a local ad, but as soon as I get that ironed out, (I am not in any way graphic savvy, you know that), :) I will check this out. Thanks for sharing. Good luck in the contest....What could you win?

  3. I could win a $25 gift card to Fabric.com!!! Which is totally cool - I do order from them.

Actually I'm leaning toward the buckle... you know me, more is better! lol
